Jesus came to preach the gospel to the poor. Peter tells us in his letter that if we will humble ourselves under God's mighty hand, He will exalt us in due season. It is the Lord's will to raise the impoverished up and to work through His people to do it. As we obey God's purpose for us, God will exalt us too. Promotion comes from the Lord, not man.
