In an occasion where we encounter behaviour on aloofness, we should also try to reach them out because in some cases, there are those who could not just interact, respond, or involve themselves not to play safe, prevent confrontation and being disliked but because of their low-self-esteem.

A number of people suffer from low self-esteem treating themselves as ugly, useless and unworthy.  It’s significant to recognize the causes of self-esteem to enable a person to face them, which can be identified by looking back at the history of a person.

Self-esteem is the heart of living with optimism and responding to life’s difficulties in a realistic manner.  One’s self-esteem has the potential to make or break in his/her professional life.  Low-self-esteem is the effect of unpleasant prevalence from childhood that has driven a person to go into the shell of detachment.  The upshot of low self-esteem usually leads to self-deprivation which steals a person of self-confidence and rational judgment.Low self-esteem is also responsible for violence in adolescents which cause irreparable mental and physical damage.

Low self-esteem is caused by factors depending on the background and status of the person, surroundings, age, association with the outside world, etc.  One has to first identify the causes of lowered self-esteem to be able to successfully deal with this issue.  Looking back at the mistakes made in the past can be the best way to deal with any problem.  Commonly, the cause of low self-esteem may be:

  1. Negligence – children raised in conditions where love and affections is lacking feel dumped and insignificant as they grew up, which cause them to be very difficult to trust people and mingle with them.
  2. Excessive criticism – when a child is constantly reminded that he is no-good, it results in depression and the child loses his self-confidence,  which creates a feeling of worthlessness, making them cynical and doubtful from doing anything positive.
  3. They make the mistake of choosing a career that the children are not happy to follow.
  4. Achievements – people work to embrace success and when failed after working hard, they treat failure as the ultimate truth which results in loss of self-esteem.
  5. These create a feeling of disgust, which detach them from an active social life.
  6. Adults too, indulge in certain activities that can harm a person’s self-esteem.
  7. The most likely culprits of child abuse are family friends, relatives, neighbours, and foster or step parents.
  8. Unemployment – a person who is unemployed feels useless and helpless, the failure to provide for their family creates a feeling of low self-esteem.

People suffering from low self-esteem have these basic symptoms which are not easy to notice:

  1. Lack social skills and self-confidence which makes them avoid social life.
  2. Have a disturbed and depressed appearance most of the time.
  3. Suffer from eating disorders such as anorexia leading to obesity which is harmful for their body.
  4. Suffer from negative thoughts and fail to recognize their potential.
  5. Afraid of criticism and take compliments negatively.
  6. Scared to take up responsibilities.
  7. Fear of forming own opinion.
  8. Live a pessimistic life.

Accordingly, we could fight low self-esteem problems through:

  1. Constant avoidance of negative situations
  2. Connect into a company of positive people
  3. Use a journal to note down the positive things occurring around you
  4. Constant positive thinking
  5. Don’t doubt to seek help in difficult times
  6. Seek professional help to deal with serious problems.

The good thing about this life is that, it offers us the means to conquer circumstance that we face including low self-esteem, so let’s not low self-esteem triumphed over us to prevent a happy life.  In this life, we learned a lot in all areas of our lives, at home, environment and school but not all that we learned and absorbed should be taken permanently because not all of these beautify our lives but destroy.  In this life, we should as well develop the habit of unlearning some things (worldly values) that we learned should we desire a happiness that’s that can be joy towards the end.

Isaiah 1:18-20 Come now, let us set things right, says the LORD: Though your sins be like scarlet, they may become white as snow; Though they be red like crimson, they may become white as wool. If you are willing, and obey, you shall eat the good things of the land; But if you refuse and resist, you shall be eaten by the sword: for the mouth of the LORD has spoken!

1 Corinthian 10:23-24 “Everything is lawful,” but not everything is beneficial. “Everything is lawful,” but not everything builds up. No one should seek his own advantage, but that of his neighbor.

Colossian 3:21 Fathers, do not provoke your children, so they may not become discouraged.

Ephesians 6:4 Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up with the training and instruction of the Lord
