What 9/11 should remind us of

Today remembers the friends and family members of victims in the 9/11 attacks. As a community we would like to lift them up in prayer. It is a great opportunity to reflect on the fact that each of our lives is in God's hands and how thankful we can be for each day we can live and work for Him. Think about how sudden and unexpected the lives of thousands were interrupted. Think about how thousands went to work on a normal day as usual, never expecting airplanes crashing into their building and ending their lives without warning.

Over thousands of years people's lives all around the world were subject to sudden dangers and twists of fate, subject to wars, plagues, untreatable sickness, devastating effects of natural disasters and in many parts of the world today this is still the case. But for all of us who get to enjoy a legal system that protects us, the absence of war in a country with peace and stability, access to medical resources and a government-enforced response system to natural disasters, it is easy to forget that our lives are still in the hands of God and that sudden, unexpected events can change everything in a split second.

Our lives ARE in God's hands and even though we may sweat the small stuff sometimes and complain about strange things such as stock markets not performing to our expectations, the fuel prices rising and our employer asking us to work harder - we are still ridiculously blessed, because we are here, protected and in His hands. Nothing happens in your life that hasn't been "signed off" by God himself. It all lands on His desk first and if He signs off on it - allowing for it to happen - then He has a plan, He has a reason.

Remembering 9/11 and different hardships in our own lives and the lives of loved ones, it may sometimes be hard to believe, yet it is true: God IS in control and HE REIGNS!

Thank God today for the blessing of being alive, protected and IN HIS HANDS
